Welcome to a new e-newsletter from the CLC especially for managers in CLC-regulated firms.
This will appear in your in box monthly and will focus on issues of compliance with the CLC’s Regulatory Arrangements and the management of your firms as well as matters of particular concern to those with managerial responsibilities. We will continue to circulate a more general monthly update for all those individuals we regulate and others in law firms who have subscribed to those.
We hope that you will find this useful. We are always pleased to receive any feedback. Just write to us at clc@clc-uk.org
Better informed clients
We are now seeking views on the proposed changes to our Regulatory Arrangements to implement the Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA) recommendations set out in its Legal Services Market Study regarding price and service transparency. The changes will aid consumers by providing cost, service and regulatory information at an earlier stage to help them make their choice of lawyer.
The changes aim to provide better transparency for consumers and foster innovation and competition in the legal services market whilst having minimal impact on the regulatory burden on the profession.
The responses to our previous consultation that many of you took part in have helped to inform the proposed changes to the Regulatory Arrangements contained in this consultation.
There’s a lot of information on the ‘Lawyers’ section of our website if you want to find out more.
Whilst promoting appropriate levels of consumer protection, our aim in reviewing the Regulatory Arrangements is to:
Please take some time to respond to this important consultation.

Inclusive leadership for business success
In our 2017 Annual Regulatory Review of all CLC-regulated firms you told us that, while 73% of all staff are female, only 47% of managers were.
Why do women in this sector not enjoy the same career progression opportunities and success as their male colleagues? Could firms do better with a more inclusive approach?
Business in the Community (BITC) have produced the Inclusive Leadership report that includes a lot of useful insight and practical case studies from all kinds of businesses. These will be helpful in considering how you could make best use of all of the talent that is available to your firm.
Take some time to read the material available on the BITC website and discuss with colleagues how you can make use of the experience of other employers.
