Technology and Innovation Working Group

In 2024 the CLC established its Technology and Innovation Working Group. Chaired by Milton James, a Council Member, and supported by fellow Council members Sarah Debney and Sarah Ryan, the group brings together professionals from the regulated community, and a diverse range of stakeholders from across the wider conveyancing and probate ecosystem (list of members). The broad membership aims to ensure diversity of experience and thought as the group supports the CLC in delivering its technology agenda.

In broad terms, the Working Group will focus on the responsible and ethical use of technology and innovation in practice and related issues which it considers to be in the interests of consumers and conveyancing and probate practices, or relevant to the CLC’s fulfilment of its regulatory objectives. The Working Group’s aims, and guiding principles are set out in the Terms of Reference.

The Working Group’s first task is to support and advise the CLC as it develops new guidance for practices wishing to adopt technology. For updates on the activities of the Working Group and the CLC’s proposed new guidance, due for publication in late summer 2025, please consider subscribing to the CLC newsletter.
