Draft money laundering regulations consultation

There is still time to comment on the government’s proposals for updated anti-money laundering regulations.

The government also intends to establish a new Office for Professional Body Anti-Money Laundering Supervision (OPBAS) to help improve the overall standards of supervision and ensure supervisors and law enforcement work together more effectively.

Annual Tax on Enveloped Dwellings (ATED)

HMRC has developed a new ATED online service to replace the old forms published on Gov.UK.  The service is now open for taxpayers and agents to register to use the service and to appoint their agent online ahead of the start of the next chargeable period beginning 1 April 2017.

New apprenticeship frameworks for conveyancing and probate have just been launched in Wales. 

 

Stamp Tax in Wales

From April 2018, Wales will have its own taxes to replace UK Stamp Duty Land Tax and Landfill Tax. In readiness for this, the Tax Collection and Management (Wales) Act 2016 provides powers to establish devolved tax arrangements.

The Welsh Government is setting up a new public body, the Welsh Revenue Authority (WRA), which will lead on and be responsible for collecting Land Transaction Tax and Landfill Disposals Tax. HMRC will continue to collect income tax when it is partially devolved from 2019.

We will keep you updated for arrangements for the new Land Transaction Tax in Wales and how you need to prepare.

Recruiting in Wales?

The Welsh Government’s ReAct scheme helps people made redundant get new skills and move back into employment.

It offers two packages to employers:

  • Employer Recruitment Support funds employers who recruit individuals made redundant in the past 3 months. The award offers up to £3,000 paid in 4 instalments as a contribution towards wage costs
  • Employer Training Support is a separate discretionary fund of up to £1,000 that an employer can put towards the cost of the new recruit’s job-related training.
