Consumer Contracts Regulations

19 May, 2014

The Consumer Contract (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 (SI 2013/3134) apply to contracts entered in or after 13 June 2014.

•    They regulate most contracts made between a ‘trader’ and a ‘consumer’
•    Although there is some uncertainty as to the type of contracts to which they apply, you should assume that the Regulations are likely to apply to contracts you enter with a client.
•    They set out the information which must be provided to clients when contracts are made in one of three situations: distance selling, on-premises and off-premises.
•    To a great extent they repeat the CLC’s requirement to provide clients with relevant information in an easily understandable format.

You need to check your standard terms and processes in advance of 13 June 2014 to ensure they are compliant with the Regulations.
